A very special litter, born May 24, 2004: Chilek's Latest (and Last) Litter!
Three boys, three girls! They are are all showing the dark sabling that is typical of Kangal puppies, making them appear gray. This will lighten over the next few weeks to the more familiar fawn with black mask that characterizes the adults. All are beautifully pigmented with no mismarks. A very pretty litter!
See pictures of the growing puppies--winners in the show ring, the living room, and the livestock pen!

Ch. Sivas Regal's Chilek
Here guarding her goats on Banks Mountain Farm, NC.
We brought Chilek to the U.S. 8 years ago, when she was a tiny puppy. She has given us so much--companionship, security, and beautiful puppies who are much loved by their owners across the United States. She achieved her UKC Championship at a young age, and she was the first Kangal Dog to be certified OFA Excellent in the U.S. --a distinction that only 3 other Kangals have achieved to date. Chilek is the ultimate Alpha Bitch who rules her pack and flock not by bullying, but by calm self-assurance and intelligence. She barks menacingly at intruders, but has never showed any aggression toward people or small pets. Loving and affectionate with everyone she meets, she especially adores children and puppies, and if we encounter them on our walks, she will flop on the ground, refusing to budge until she gets to say "Hi." Chilek is one very special Kangal lady.

Eti's Chomar of Ashkabad
( a.k.a. "Chomar") Bred by Nancy Rix, owned by the Gunesgor family, Chomar now watches over his sheep and goats in North Carolina.
He is the young son of the famed GR. CH.Turkmen Eti, one of the top Kangal Dogs in the U.S.A. Chomar's daddy has OFA Excellent hips, and his mother is OFA Good. Several other siblings and relatives have tested Good or Excellent, including the maternal grandsire of Chomar, who was Chilek's brother Jahn, also imported by us in 1996. With such distinguished, proven dogs in this line, and good working temperament on both sides, we are very enthusiastic about the value of these pups for the future of the Kangal breed in the U.S. |
Chilek was first introduced to goats at the age of 7, and took to her new life as a livestock guardian with the same confidence and devotion that she had given us as a companion and family guardian. She loves her life, and is fit and ready for her last litter of pups before she retires from breeding to live with her flock.

Chomar can fly!
Who knew that a Kangal Dog could even do a double suspension gallop? I sure didn't, until I captured this on videotape! Chomar is as fast as the wind, and a graceful thing of beauty to watch at full speed, but he has the substance and strength to do his job of protecting sheep and goats. |
This breeding of two fine and athletic Kangal Dogs, from lines that produce solid hips and good temperaments, will produce some special puppies that will be very valuable to our Kangal Dog gene pool. We can expect excellent health, stable Kangal temperament, intelligence, and good breed type. Reservations are being taken.
We breed only genuine, typey, purebred Turkish Kangal Dogs. Proper temperament and good health are paramount in our breeding program. Puppies are bred carefully and occasionally, and available to the right homes. Breeding-status puppies available to qualified persons only. Enquiries welcome.
