Puppies were born all night long, August 1 2000. There are nine pups--5 females, 4 males. All weighed between 1.1 and 1.4 lbs at birth. The biggest is a girl--she'll be a bruiser.
 
 
 

Here is Chilek with her new brood. Exhausted but smiling and proud!

And look at little Sunny. He appears to be nearly black. Watch him as he gets older. He and Scarlett are "gray Kangal Dogs"--they are not really gray, but they have more dark guard hairs mixed in with their fawn coat. They will lighten up, as will all the puppies, but Sunny and Scarlett are likely to stay a rather grayish fawn color like their big sister Kelebek from the 1998 litter, same breeding. Very pretty.

Meet the new babies!  The puppies are temporarily named according to their collar colors. The girls are Jade, Sky, Violet, Rose, and Scarlett. The boys are Sunny, Christmas, Blue and Domino.

Like they say, at about three weeks it's like someone pressed the "ON" button, and the pups come alive! Their eyes are open, they are exploring their world, and discovering one another--beginning to play, bark, growl, and even some hilariously clumsy attempts to pounce. By the end of the week, they have also discovered me... which is very gratifying!  They follow me with the food bowls. They look deep into my face with their muddy blue eyes, lick my chin, and crowd into  my lap. Also they've got kids next door who apply daily for Puppy Play Time.
 

Here is Pasha, Chilek, some babies, and Ripley the Rat Terrier who has designated herself official Nanny.

I can't help it... Ripley is too cute with these puppies that at 4 weeks are nearly her size. She's always hanging around to help, and clearly thrilled that Chilek allows her to.
	Sigrid from Detroit. She came, she saw, she was conquered! Who can resist Kangal puppies? And Pasha and Chilek were at their diplomatic best as well.
