Molosser World, Kaare Konradsen's excellent and comprehensive site on the various Molosser breeds. LGD Links Page--links to myriad other LGD breeds. Written, however, by Anatolian fanciers, and thus very interestingly leaves out the Kangal Dog--Turkey's national breed--but includes Akbash Dogs. AnatolianShepherd Dogs International (ASDI) web site For a different point of view regarding the Turkish breeds. A view that contradicts the reality of history and dog breeds in Turkey, and a view that goes against the Turkish understanding of their own dogs. But read and compare for yourself. ASDCA Anatolian Shepherd Dog Club of America. The AKC-affiliated Anatolian club. Same caviats as for the ASDI above. "The
Dispute" --a Finnish Anatolian breeder's view on Lumping vs. Splitting.
(Apologies for those who will find this site impossible to read--you have
to click on the "Dispute" link, but because the site uses frames, and the
owner's kennel name takes up a large proportion of page real estate, and
because it does not allow you to bring text up in a separate window, it
is painful indeed to attempt to read. Not our fault. ;-) Perhaps
it is not meant to be read?)
The USDA's APHIS web site on Livestock Guardian Dogs. Other publications about livestock guardian dogs are available by contacting your local APHIS/ADC (Animal & Disease Control) office of the USDA. Just call and ask for Publication #455. FAO DAD-IS Database This is an international database set up by the United Nations FAO. Search the database for Turkish livestock breeds and you will find a number of breeds of goats, horses, sheep, and other domestic animals. The United Nations maintains that it is the indigenous breeds around the world are the provenance of the country of origin, which has the right to define and name, and preserve their native breeds.
