How I gathered my Turkish resources: I lived for two years in Istanbul, Turkey, where I taught academic English and research writing at Koc University 1994-1996. Our university had state-of-the-art computer equipment, and so I was able to conduct (with the help of a professional researcher) a computer search of document titles and subjects in the major Turkish government and university library systems. 

This is my complete bibliography of results from searches using the key words "Anatolian Shepherd", "Anatolian + dog" "Kangal" "Karabash" and Turk* + dog"--I have left nothing out except articles about Kangal sheep and the like. 

However, I have not included the articles published for the International Symposium on Turkish Shepherd Dogs because these are listed separately. 

I was able to obtain copies of many of these articles, and with the help of my husband and several students, I have translations for some of the more important articles. Some Turkish writers provided English translations for their titles, some were translated by myself with help from my Turkish students at Koc University. 

Note that almost all Turkish writers refer to the subjects of their research as Kangal Dogs in the Turkish language titles, and most also use "Kangal Dog" in the English translation, but a few are translated into English as "Anatolian," and one vet uses "Karabash" in both languages. A few Turkish writers apparently have seen just enough overseas literature about Turkish breeds to be confused: they seem to have thought in those years that "Anatolian Shepherd" is the English-language translation for "Kangal Dog" which of course is not true (see the Lumpers vs. Splitters FAQ). 

Educated canine enthusiasts and veterinarians in Turkey are now adamant about the correct use of the breed name "Kangal Dog" (see the Letter from Dr. Tekinsen).

[I got a photocopy from an ASDCA member who sent it to me as evidence of "pinto Kangal Dogs"! It turns out that the "pinto" markings are shadows on a Kangal Dog under a tree, which look like patches when rendered in black and white on a photocopier. I have the original article and color photos as printed in the Turkish Airlines magazine.)
